Following Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is a worldwide kickoff day for philanthropy and inspiration for all to give time and charitable donations during the holiday season. This #GivingTuesday, Sullivan Solar Power is investing in the crusade and endorsing its partner, Climate Action Campaign, on their mission to stop climate change. Since 2017, Sullivan Solar Power has worked alongside Climate Action Campaign to use education and their respective voices toward a brighter future via clean energy.
Climate Action Campaign’s daily fight is helping San Diego reach its goal of 100 percent renewable energy by 2035, per the 2015 Climate Action Plan. Locally, their passion and fierce momentum have resulted in the passing of six Climate Action Plans for 100 percent clean energy and are a huge reason why San Diego is leading the nation in the clean energy arena. These efforts have statewide influence, exemplified by California Governor Jerry Brown signing Senate Bill 100, The 100 Perfect Clean Energy Act of 2018, pledging all electricity from renewable sources by 2045.
Against all odds and deniers, Sullivan Solar Power and Climate Action Campaign celebrated together on November 6, 2018, after Mayor Kevin Faulconer’s announcement to commit to Senate Bill 100 and move forward with a Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) program. The program will end the energy monopoly and give an opportunity to residents of the City of San Diego to have a choice in where their energy comes from, a huge success for San Diego and for Climate Action Campaign. While acknowledging the small wins, it is important to recognize the long road ahead and many obstacles to overcome in the journey to stop climate change.
