According to a new report in the Orange County Register, solar scams are on the rise with companies hitting homeowners with aggressive sales and marketing tactics for solar power systems that don’t deliver on promises.
Eric Penner, a 30-year-old social worker from Laguna Niguel, said he received robocalls, at least four a day, on his phone for months from an outfit called the National Renewable Energy Center. The calls included high-pressure tactics from salespeople, even though Penner doesn’t own a home and isn’t planning on investing in solar power equipment any time soon, the report said.
Unfortunately, stories like Penner’s are becoming more common. Since 2010, the Contractors State License Board, which regulates solar power installers and other contractors, has logged nearly 800 consumer complaints about unscrupulous solar energy companies.
KUSI TV consumer watchdog Michael Turko recently featured Sullivan Solar Power as a reputable company serving San Diego and the rest of Southern California. Turko’s report featured San Diegans who said they were targeted by dishonest solar power salespeople claiming to work for local utilities and refusing to provide details of the work they would be doing.
Sullivan Solar Power is not like other solar power companies. We don't engage in high-pressure phone calls, door-to-door visits or other sketchy tactics to attract customers. We are an industry leader, in business since 2004, and dedicated to helping Southern California property owners break free from expensive utility power and generate their own clean, renewable electricity from the sun's rays.
