La Jolla UCSD Solar Power: Central Utilities Plant

Sullivan Solar Power completed a 39-kilowatt solar power installation at the Central Utilities Plant on the campus of UCSD in 2014. The plant is an essential part of keeping the sprawling UCSD campus up and running, so we are proud that our solar energy system is helping keep UCSD green and renewable. The solar panel system we designed, built and installed for the UCSD Central Utilities Plant was ballasted mounted on the roof of the building. It consists of 102 Sunpower modules and an Advanced Energy inverter to provide all the electricity the building will need for decades to come.


This solar power installation by Sullivan Solar Power is part of the solar energy revolution and generating clean, renewable electricity for UCSD Central Utilities Plant. On average, each year a solar energy system this size will:

  • Generate 58,500 to 78,000 kilowatt hours of clean renewable solar power.
  • Avoid the creation of 96,720 pounds of harmful carbon dioxide released into our air.
  • Provide the system owner with $17,160 in Solar Power Savings.
