Long Beach City College Solar Power
The new campus parking facility will be powered by over 2,100 photovoltaic solar panels that will provide an estimated 451kW of electricity. The new campus green area in front of the parking structure will also feature vegetated swales that will allow water to percolate into the ground, therefore avoiding storm drains and utilizing less water. This entire system was designed, engineered, and installed by Sullivan Solar Power. "Long Beach City College is basically going from an out-of-date, decentralized system to a more efficient, eco-friendly, controlled environment," said Medhanie Ephrem, LBCC's Energy Management Coordinator. These efforts will lead to a much greener LBCC while contributing to meeting the goal of AB32, California's Global Warming Act of 2006.
